Re: Free ebook

What you are seeing is the backsovled symbol. That symbol is calculated by the optimum lines for both sides, based on the assessments of the final position in each line. It cannot edited.

Re: Free ebook

Is there any free ebook for COW 2016. I am tempted to create one and share to community. Is this OK Mike? Is there a free COW 2016 where an ebook can be viewed? There is not currently a free version of COW 2016. Perhaps I should make a free app to do just that. Creating a free ebook would be quite ...

Re: Bug Reports

The algebraic hints were dropped but you're the fourth person to ask about them so I've added them to my list.

Re: C.O.W. and WINE?

WINE has not been officially tested but I do occasionally hear from folks running COW under WINE and there haven't been any complaints.

Re: Interface options (backburner)

Ah, ebooks keep track of the line played so that when you open the book later it reads the "bookmark" and restores the last played line. There isn't a way to save individual bookmarks though. The app assumes that named positions are endgames or tactics puzzles that don't need a line of pla...

Re: Is this a bug ?

COW uses the same code on all platforms so if it allows castling through check in isolated cases, it will allow it in all versions.

Probably no harm in this bug. It's rare anyone tries to make an illegal move with COW though. :)

Re: Indexing and searching PGN files prior to import

The sample Fischer.PGN file does not contain ECO codes. It came from an older product of mine called "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" and it has just the minimum standard PGN header tags along with some comments used by that program.

Re: Is Stockfish 10 64 bit an optimist?

This is a serious problem I would think. Why would an engine have a contempt factor enabled during analysis?

Re: Missing file extension

I just tested this on build 91 and it correctly adds the .EPD extension even though it isn't shown when typing in the file name.

Re: Feature request: multipv analysis

Chess Openings Wizard (Mac and Windows) does show the second best line using its own technique which does not rely on the engine's multipv function. Often the engine function shows a line which almost perfectly matches the best line. COW instead keeps track of other lines which are different, usuall...
