Re: Latest Version

Mike has said that the only sure way to contact him is to post a comment here. He generally tosses his mail because he receives so much junk. CPT doesn't see much action because it has fewer bugs. The only bug I have found in several months of constant usage was a design choice. If you want to see a...

Re: Latest Version

If you want a better program at a lower price with support try Chess Position Trainer.

Re: Latest Version

Mike:

I did a little testing and found something else that might relate to the problem. The backsolve progress window reports the number of positions from the last, small, opened database.

Hope that helps.

Re: Latest Version

Mike:

I might have found the problem. Build 81 doesn't handle repeating positions.

Re: Latest Version

I am using build 81 on windows 7x64 with an ~6G database. Neither <backsolve> nor <about this book> ever return (waited for 1/2 hour for backsolve to report that it was doing something). Backsolve is being ran from the current position and doesn't return even when there is only one node to backsolve...

Re: Latest Version

Sorry, I again didn't make myself clear. I thought it was obvious that I meant all of the leaf nodes for a branch. That would seem to be the nearly universal case and it doesn't work.

Re: COW Wish List

Mike: An idea for the wish list: Allow comments on moves, perhaps by hovering over the candidate. COW's comment area only provides good support for comments on the position which can be stretched into before move comments. I think this because each position in COW can have multiple parents. I probab...

Re: Latest Version

Mike: I was experimenting with IRCs and the ignore blank IRCs feature and it doesn't seem to work. If all of the leaf nodes are blank you assign a White wins or black wins IRC instead of ignoring them and that branch of the tree. Is this the way you expect it to work? If so please explain how to mak...

Re: Latest Version

Mike: The reason that I call your limits arbitrary is because neither the compiler nor the computer impose any limits on arithmetic precision. The book "Numerical Recipes in C - The art of Scientific Computing" shows how to do this with numbers stored as strings. You can look at the book a...
