Training is complete in lines beyond this position

Post by garrubal »

I added some lines to an opening book and started using the "Train Now" feature. On occasion, I'd come across a pop up that stated "Training is complete in lines beyond this position". I found the statement odd, since in some of these lines there were still some moves I wish I could have practiced some more.

Are there some settings I can change so I can continue to train until the end of the line? I suppose I can "Reset Training" to achieve that goal, but I'm hoping for a simpler solution.

Thanks.

"Training is complete in lines beyond this position". I found the statement odd, since in some of these lines there were still some moves I wish I could have practiced some more.

I ran across this when it was the last move, presumably not your case. Also when you set up your training (Command, Training ...) there is an option that you might have checked "Limit Training to Move Number X." Also you can uncheck the Show "No More Candidates" Message.

I think there are workflow strategies the user must develop to get the most out of COW. I tried the Training feature for the first time yesterday. I found it frustrating at first but I am getting the knack and may use it a lot.

Background: Many of my COW databases have a lot of games, candidates, etc. It's a bit of a jungle. Yet through symbols and comments it is manageable and useful. I think the Training feature will be very useful with a Well Structured Data Base.

Training from the Black side, with the computer as White, I will make sure that Black's best candidate is on top. I can train with the computer picking "random with coverage." The computer does not have to play the best candidate, but the player must. This seems to work as varied drill.

Chessable forces you down the same path every time with drill, drill, drill. I find that homework tedious. What I described above more nearly resembles playing your opening of choice in a thematic chess tournament. Every game is the same opening, but trials vary, just as would individual games.

Perhaps as I learn the opening better, I might give black (myself) a choice of moves. However, I would first have to eliminate "junk" moves from black in that particular COW book. A junk move may have been played in the past, perhaps by a world champion, but is no longer recommended. Another example of a junk move would be an obvious, illustrative error. That is exactly what you don't want to learn!

Yes, I have had that same problem. Even if I have previously completed the training, I'd like to do it again.

By the way, if you find yourself stuck in training, unable to find the right move, press the next move button.
