I believe that backsolving is not obsolete, but in practice never worked unless all the holes in tree were filled.
And finding and filling them manually is really painful, and to be repeated periodically.
Aquarium and BanksiaGUI made attempts at automatically growing a tree, but an hybrid mode like this would be way better.
I believe that a filter should be added to never add moves, to add only better moves, or moves within a max range, for both sides.
This would be a good complement to multiPV.
This would be useful also importing updates from pgn (like the new TWIC).
Yep, I'm planning on controls to add only better moves within user adjustable ranges for one or both sides. MultiPV was the first step to make that possible.

Backsolving is focused solely on proving which line is best but the game of chess of often one of playing lines that provoke errors from one's opponent such that playing slightly less-than-best moves is practical.

MultiPV works great! I use it all the time. It's good to know if the top line is the "only move" or one of many.

I also use backsolving all the time. It took me a while to deal with the repetition "o" symbol.

I like how the "main window" now retains its placement and size.

I routinely reduce the window size of a new eBook. Perhaps a "set default size and placement" command could be developed. That would be useful in general, but specifically it would allow the stacking of COW ebooks. Then the "main window" could be used to toggle between eBooks.

Notice that window management has been added to Windows 11. I tried the Windows 11 options for COW eBooks. Technically, it works. It just does not work for me. I don't need a COW eBook to fill the whole screen, half the screen (too much), or a quarter of the screen (too wide, too short). The Windows 11 options work great for a kindle (or ADE) chess book. I set it for half, or 60 percent, of the screen, on the left. Then my COW eBook is on the right.
