Isotype Control

Post by cailynnjohnson »

An isotype control is a primary antibody as a negative control that matches the isotypes of the experimental antibody in standard immunoassays. The only difference between the isotype control and experimental primary antibody is antigen specificity: isotype control has no specificity for a target antigen/cell. Therefore, isotype controls help differentiate non-specific background signals caused by off-target binding.
