The first app is MasterChess. Back in 1998 my friend Paul Azzurro asked me to create a game database but with no copy protection, millions of recent games, a small price tag, support for both Windows and Macintosh, and the ability to handle PGN files that are larger than a terabyte. (ChessBase and Fritz can’t do any of that.) The latest version came out in 2025.
