Bookup 2000 uses UCI engines.

The Dutch maker of the famous Rebel line of chess engines, Ed Schröder, has retired after 20 years(!) of chess programming and has released a free version of his latest engine which he calls Pro Deo.

NOTE: You do not need to upgrade Bookup to use this free engine.  For information on the new Bookup 2000 Professional with the training wizard click here.
 

To add this engine to Bookup 2000 Express or Professional in Windows XP:

1) Visit http://members.home.nl/matador/prodeo.htm and click on "Download Pro Deo 1.0"

2) The download window will appear. Click the Open button.

3) The Windows Explorer window will appear.* Click once to highlight the ProDeo folder.

4) Under File and Folder Tasks (left side of the screen) click Move this folder

5) Double click My Computer

6) Double click Local Disk (C:)

7) Double click Program Files

8) Double click Bookup

9) Double click Bookup 2000 or Bookup 2000 Express

10) Double click Engines

11) Click the Move button.

12) Run Bookup.

13) Right click on the engine button.

14) Click UCI for Engine Type.

15) Change the Engine Nickname for UCI to "Pro Deo".

16) Click the Select Engine... button.

17) Click the "up folder" button.  Then you should see the Crafty, Pro Deo and Ruffian folders.

18) Double click on the Pro Deo folder.

19) Double click on the Rebeluci.exe file.

20) Click OK.

21) To start the engine, make sure an ebook is open and click on the engine button.

 

*Some steps will be different and easier if you have Winzip installed.
